I can't decide which earthquake was worse. You could say they were equal because the Haiti quake had a lower magnitude, but caused more damage. The Chile quake was a higher magnitude, but the Chileans were better prepared. So, yes, they are equal.
I disagree. I think the earthquake in Haiti was much worse because of the number of people who lost their lives. Plus the level of destruction overall was much greater because Chili's building codes are much better and require stronger buildings designed to withstand earthquakes better.
